THOUSANDS of kids and their minders joined Santa and friends along the Golden Mile in Wellington yesterday.
The city turned on a still, sunny day for the Christmas parade, with a crowd estimated at 70,000 enjoying the heat and entertainment.
As well as the guest of honour – aka Father Christmas – stiltwalkers, pirates, fairytale and cartoon characters, accompanied by seven bands, kept children spellbound.
Members of many Wellington clubs put on costumes and decorated floats to raise their profile and entertain the crowd.
From Falun Dafa to the Harbour City rock’n’rollers, Batucada band to the Shetland Club, Bigair gym to the Wellington Vintage Car Club – whether by float or foot the paraders made it to the end of the route on Cuba St.
City council event managers patrolled the route on Segways.
As the crowds dispersed, Phaedra and Xanthe Chin joined many other hot parade viewers in an iceblock treat to finish the day.
